Fisher & Paykel Fridge Not Cooling

When a fridge or freezer stops cooling properly, it does not take long before food safety becomes a concern. We were recently called to inspect a Fisher & Paykel fridge/freezer in Armidale that was no longer maintaining the correct temperature.
On arrival, a full diagnostic check was carried out to determine the cause of the issue. One of the key components in any fridge/freezer is the evaporator. This is located inside the freezer compartment and is responsible for creating the cold air that is circulated throughout the appliance.
To accurately assess performance, we tested the temperature across both ends of the evaporator with the fan turned off. This method helps identify how evenly the cooling system is operating. In this case, there was a clear temperature difference from one end of the evaporator to the other.
This result strongly indicates a sealed system issue. The most common causes are either a loss of refrigerant or a compressor that is no longer performing efficiently. Unfortunately, both of these faults are considered major and are not typically economical to repair in domestic fridge/freezers.
In situations like this, honest advice is important. Rather than recommending costly repairs with uncertain outcomes, we advised that replacement of the fridge would be the most practical and cost-effective solution.
